Mercy Ministries and Professional Counselling

One mark of professionalism is to employ professionals with degrees or qualifications from reputable univeristies. Another is to have these qualified people enrol as members of professional peak bodies such as the The Australian Counselling Association.
One of our researchers has taken the time to check the names of 6 counsellors, past and present employed by Mercy against those registered with the ACA – only one of the names checked was currently registered. This counsellor while registered now, started as a counsellor and was treating girls in 2003, but was not registered until 2004.
Surely its not that hard to get these people registered and present them as qualified professionals?
Yeah the counsellor I had at Mercy wasn’t qualified either. She didn’t help me, it wasn’t real counselling.
my counsellor wasnt qualified either…
I had done a diploma of youth work when i was 17… I was more qualified than 99% of the staff at MM.
I was on staff with Mercy Ministries back in 1994-95, and [staff member name removed] mistreated other staff all the time. She had a very foul mouth as well, and when I quit there it took a long time for me to trust Christian organizations again. I hope that she has changed.
